Hungry for prizes? Make sure you get your Winter Festival entry forms in now
Bakers and home produce makers are being reminded to get their entries in for Oban Winter Festival, writes Kathie Griffiths.
Tomorrow, Friday November 8, is the last chance to get forms in to organisers who are working up an appetite for the contests at this year’s event.
For the first time, 2019 is introducing a new boozy jam class for men only.
As well as other tasty treats, including shortbread, the best Clootie Dumpling championship is up for grabs again on Sunday November 17 at the Corran Halls.
Last year’s gold and silver prize winner got such a taste of success that she went on to start up her own business making the traditional dried fruit pudding, said one of the organisers.

A last shout out is also going to shops and businesses in the town to light up and dress up their windows in time for the festival’s opening night on Friday November 15. This year’s theme is Fantasy Frost and Fairytales. The Winter Queen will be passing through the streets at 5pm waving her wand to work her magic.
Winter Woods will also be illuminating Glencruitten that weekend; tickets are £6.50 for adults, £3.50 for children and free for under twos. The minibus shuttle leaves from Shore Street.
Young people wanting to show off their talents are also being invited to get in touch with organisers to take part in the Young Entrepreneurs event at Oban Distillery on St Andrew’s Day, Saturday November 30, from noon to 4pm.
Woodworker Ben Selfridge, who set up his own business after craft lessons at Lochgilphead High School was offered an apprenticeship after last year’s showcase day.
