Quizzes and Winter Festival fun
Hallowe’en and fireworks over, it’s time for the next event to entice us out of our warm houses and the Cancer Research Quiz is a must tomorrow (Friday November 8), in the Masonic Hall at 7.30pm.
It’s always one of my favourites whether I win or not; it’s the taking part that counts apparently. Quiz Master Tony Cave certainly knows how to set some challenging questions and the prizes and raffle are excellent too.
We’re lucky in Oban to have a few hostelries offering quizzes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and they’re all worth a visit. The Lorne on a Wednesday, Markie Dans on a Sunday and every second Thursday in The Oban Inn – between them and the charity quizzes that are run you could be out almost every night.
Bingo seems to be the new big thing as well with The View running charity bingo nights and regular bingo run in Soroba Community Centre. I’d love to see The Dove Centre holding another of its bingo events in The Argyllshire (hint, hint) as they’re really good fun.
Lots to be going on with and lots to look forward to as well, with Oban Winter Festival drawing even closer.
The programme is now on its website and again you could be out all day and all night during the festival if you wanted as it gets bigger and better every year. If you have Harry Potter-loving children then have a look at the Wizard School Murder, Mystery lunch at the Columba Hotel on Saturday. After the success of the last event this one promises to be exciting for adults and children alike.
On a more serious note we’re approaching
Remembrance Day again with a Garden of Remembrance on the Esplanade next to West Coast Motors where you can place crosses tomorrow (Friday November 8) at 3pm and Monday 11th at 11am. There will also be the Remembrance Day Service at 10.50am on Sunday, November 10, with the parade leaving the Corran Halls at 10.30am. Adult and youth groups are welcome to join the parade and congregate at the Corran Halls at 10am.
