Saturday November 9, Beinn an Dòthaidh and Beinn Dòrain, Bridge of Orchy.

These two well-known Munros are the centre-piece of the view from the A82 north of Tyndrum. This route traverses both of them before descending into an impressive coire.

Park near the start of the estate road opposite the head of Loch Tulla, at NN313438. Follow the track E to Achallader farm, turn S and cross the railway. Continue S up the grassy slopes on the W side of the burn to reach the foot of the ridge enclosing Coire Achaladair on its W side. Climb the ridge to reach a summit of Beinn an Dòthaidh, 1,000m. The main summit is 500m further E, altitude 1,004m. Return to the first summit and descend S to the col at the head of Coire an Dòthaidh, 744m, and continue S up the long ridge to the summit of Beinn Dòrain, 1,076m. Return to the col and descend on a path in Coire an Dòthaidh to the Bridge of Orchy Hotel. Transport required at the CP S of the hotel at NN296395.

Thursday November 14, Corrour to Kinlochlev­en via Meanannach, Rannoch Moor.

A journey in wild country amongst the more remote peaks and glens of Lochaber. Come prepared to ford a river. Bring concession­ary passes or money for travel by train and bus.

Start from Corrour Stn, NN355664. Cross to the W side of the railway and follow the path NW to join a track after about 2km. Continue downhill on the track to the head of Loch Treig. Turn W along its shore to the bridge across the mouth of the Abhainn Rath at Creaguaime­ach LodgeLR. *Cross the bridge and turn SW to follow the river on a path. Follow it W upstream for about 5km to Meannanach Bothy. Ford the Abhainn Rath to reach the ruins at Luibeilt and pick up the track leading S to Loch Eilde Beag. Continue on past

Loch Eilde Mor. Beyond the foot of the loch, the track rises to a low col. At NN208634, turn SW on to a footpath and follow it down to Kinlochlev­en. Transport required, buses from Kinlochlev­en dep: 1710, 1810, 1855, 2128, 2328.

*During recent prolonged or heavy rain or if rivers are high, consider travelling via footpath on S side of Abhainn Rath to Staoineag Bothy and continuing direct to Luibeilt on pathless terrain.

Sunday November 10, Carn a’ Chuilinn, Fort Augustus.

An isolated Corbett situated 3.5km W of the new Glendoe Dam.

Start from the B862 3km E of Fort Augustus, where the road bridge crosses the Allt Doe, NH408087. Limited off-road parking is available. Head back to the CG and turn SW up a grassy field to join the hydro-track. Follow the track into Glen Doe for 3km to the bridge over the Allt Doe, then continue S on a stalkers’ path to about NH414053. Head SE up steep rocky slopes to reach the N spur of Carn a’ Chuilinn and follow its crest up to the summit, 816m.

*For a closer look at the dam, descend S, and pass around the foot of Lochan Dearg Uilt. Continue E along the high ground above Glen Tarff, curving NE along the rim of the escarpment of Creag an Fhir-eoinn then cross the Allt Carn a’ Chuilinn near its issue from the loch. Head for the statue and continue NE for 280m to regain the hydro track. Follow this N back to the B862.

*A shorter return from the summit of Carn a’ Chuilin descends NW on steep rocky ground to reach a track at about NH407043. Follow it NW then NE around a fenced plantation to rejoin the hydro track in Glen Doe. Follow this back to the B862, about 2.5km. 21km, 815m ascent
