Winter Festival magic

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

Winter is well and truly here now, so it’s time to embrace it and get the woolly hats and gloves out and the fire on. I’m starting to get excited about Christmas too – six weeks today, and there is so much to look forward to before that.

I’ve got a busy weekend ahead helping at Oban Winter Bricks, the Lego exhibition, in St Columba’s Cathedral Hall, which was amazing last year. I’m astounded at what can be produced with a few wee bricks stuck together and I can’t wait to see what’s on show this year. It’s definitely not just for children.

On Sunday, I have a very relaxing afternoon planned attending the Christmas flower arranging demonstration in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, titled Season of Magic. I always enjoy watching the flower arrangements appear as they are breathtaking and with luck I might win one.

The afternoon tea is always second to none as well and, with the proceeds going to Friends of Oban Hospice, it rounds off the afternoon knowing it’s all for a good cause.

These are only what I’m doing this weekend, but with the start of the Winter Festival, the choice of how to spend your weekend is endless. In fact, too many for me to include here, so grab yourself a copy of the programme which is in shops all over town or have a look online and see what takes your fancy.

The photograph last week was taken at the Rockfield Centre last year, this week’s is slightly more difficult and might keep you guessing.
