2019 Mowi Shinty Awards

-

There were celebrations for Oban Camanachd’s Daniel Sloss and Fort William and Glengarry shinty clubs at the Mowi Conference and Awards Ceremony hosted by sponsor Mowi at the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness, on Saturday November 9.

Daniel Sloss has long since cemented his place in the Oban Camanachd first team which won this year’s Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Cup and were runners-up in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup and the Artemis Macaulay Cup. He represented Scotland U17 in their summer Ireland tour and was also part of Alan MacRae’s Scotland U21 squad which recently played their Irish counterparts.

Oban Camanachd manager Stephen Sloss said: ‘I’m probably harder on Daniel than anyone but he’s deserved this award.

‘He marks all the top forwards in Scotland each week, aged just 17, so he’s punching way above his weight.

‘We’ve had a really good season as a team and have a lot of good players, but Daniel has been given the hardest job most Saturdays yet he’s probably been the most consistent player over the year. Hopefully, that continues.’

Fort William were named Mowi Club of the Year and were the first recipients of the Gary Innes Award for youth club of the year. After winning the Liberty British Aluminium Balliemore Cup and completing their Mowi National Division season with a 100 per cent record, the Manager of the Year accolade went to bosses Victor Smith and Adam Robertson and the player of the year in the same division was given to Arran MacPhee.

The Mowi North Division 1 Player of the Year prize went to Fort William second team keeper Stuart Disher.

Glengarry manager Ewen Cameron followed up his 2017 Mowi North Division 2 Manager of the Year gong with this year’s Mowi North Division 1 Manager of the Year award. Elaine Cameron won WCA Mowi Development Coach of the Year and Mowi Youth Coach of the Year.

The awards were handed out by Mowi communications manager Ian Roberts and colleagues Angus MacKay and Jayne MacKay.
