Kyle Falconer to play at The View
Music fans in Oban will receive a late Christmas present this year, writes David McPhee.
Kyle Falconer, the lead singer of Dundee band The View, will promote his debut solo album, No Thank You, on Friday December 27.
He will play in the aptly named venue, The View, formerly Skippinish Ceilidh House.
The Same Jeans singer has had five hit albums and a Mercury nomination with The View.
Daniel MacIntyre, one of the Oban venue's directors, said: 'Securing Kyle Falconer to promote his debut solo album at The View is a major coup for us, and something we’ve aimed to achieve since we took over. In a way, it’s a statement about what is set to come when we reopen in 2020.'
Plans to enhance The View's credentials as a music venue have been boosted as the venue has been selected for Scottish Music Industry Association’s Music Business Innovation (MBI) programme.
Delivered as part of a programme of development initiatives supported by Creative Scotland, the MBI was open to four Scottish businesses that will be supported by specialist consultants to help them create a strategic plan to address their market position, challenges and ambitions.
Daniel said: 'We are thrilled to be accepted onto the SMIA’s Music Business Innovation programme and to help fly the flag for the music industry in the Highlands and Islands.
'As the new kids on the block, we’ll tap into as much knowledge and experience to help us reposition our venue as the gateway to traditional and contemporary music.
'Alongside our planned investment in the venue, the innovation programme will help build our network and contacts as we stretch our programming and market development that is crucial to growing our reputation as a venue and Oban's night-time economy.'
