No early Christmas present for Fort as they lose at Keith
Keith 4 Fort William 0
Fort were unable to collect an early Christmas present from their trip to Keith on Saturday, going down 4-0 in this Highland League clash at Kynoch Park.
The score line does not reflect the effort put in by the Fort players to get a win, however.
There was an ominous warning early on when after just two minutes Craig MacAskill scored for the hosts.
Fort nearly hit back just 13 minutes later with a cracking 20-yard strike from Donald Morrison which, unfortunately, flew wide.
Fort had another chance in the 20-minute mark through Josh Knowles but his header was saved.
A penalty after 32 minutes saw Keith club captain Cammy Keith net his 250th goal for his club.
Fort almost got its side of the scoreboard to finally turn over in the 36th minute with Jack Brown’s fine header forcing Keith’s keeper to make yet another save right out of the top drawer.
The visitors kept battering away at the Keith defence, with Aidan Taylor coming close to scoring against his former club on the 44th minute mark.
His effort was kept out by the home keeper leaving half time score at 2-0.
Keith scores again on 58 minutes to make it 3-0 with the final nail in Fort’s festive season coffin being hammered home on the strike of 78 minutes.
Outgoing Fort manager, Russell McMorran, said Saturday’s result was greatly disappointing.
‘There’s no other way to put it. Again we found ourselves controlling the game and again we find ourselves on the end of a defeat, he told the Lochaber Times.
‘The lads got caught cold within minutes when Keith reacted quicker to a speculative pass that should have been dealt with by our defence.
‘After that we controlled the play and created chances.
‘A very soft penalty gave Keith the opportunity to extend their lead, which they did.
‘We started the second half like we ended the first, in control of the game with most of the possession and again created chances.
‘ I can’t argue with the third goal as it was an excellent turn and strike into the top corner from the lad on the edge of the box, but again we then conceded a soft goal for Keith to make it 4-0.
Chances
‘You can’t win games without taking your chances and at the end of the day Keith took their chances.
‘We can’t continue to have so much possession and control of the game without having the end product in the final third.
‘ I don’t actually think that our keeper had a save to make, unlike his opposite number who was called into action a number of times.
‘All that being said, we still have to take positives from the game, as we do from every game.
‘The team is young, with the average age being around 19. They are still learning the game and as they are finding out, the Highland League is a quick physical league.
‘We move on the face Fraserburgh this Saturday and I’ll be looking for an improvement in the final third.’
