Lismore children spread Christmas cheer

-

Christmas came early for Lismore Primary School, which started its celebrations in November by making the school’s traditional Christmas Cake.

Each family donated a different ingredient and after a lot of weighing and measuring, each child took it in turns to stir the mixture and make a wish.

In early December the pupils were invited to perform songs and carols at the island’s Holly Lunch.

Guests were given a sneak preview of the school play and joined the children in singing some traditional Christmas songs and carols.

On December 13, the children performed their musical play, A Place for a Baby, which tells the story of an angel who is sent around the world by God to find the perfect place for baby Jesus to be born.

Through songs, costumes and actions, the cast led the audience around the globe from North America and Hawaii to Spain, Switzerland, China and of course, Lismore. There was a hardly a dry eye in the house when the younger children formed a tableau of the Nativity as the finale. The audience were then treated to mulled wine and mince pies while the children sang some more carols and Christmas songs.

The final event of the term was the Family Christmas Lunch, when parents joined their children in school for a traditional turkey lunch with all the trimmings. There were fun quizzes and games and the children performed songs and carols for their parents.

The lunch was a fitting end to another successful term at Lismore Primary School.
