The Battle of Banavie ends in a diplomatic draw

-

Lochaber held their annual Boxing Day event on Thursday. The first team were joined by a few of the under18’s team and a few over-18 former players.

The good weather drew a huge crowd out to watch from the hill and a few even joined in for the second half.

The players were piped onto the pitch by under-18’s player Ben Fulford before the game got under way.

Under-18’s player Ronnie Fulford got the first try for the President’s team after a superb lobbed pass out to the right wing.

Alexander Murray John levelled things up for the Captain’s team after he broke through and showed his brother Edward a clean pair of heels.

The President’s team took an early lead with Daniel

Thomas crossing the line and Ronnie Fulford getting his second try.

Players on both sides were able to show off their skill sets in an open free flowing game and a few of the younger players in particular were impressive but the old boys still showed them a thing or two.

Christopher Simpson and Edward Murray John stretched the Presidents’ lead further with a brace of tries before Jonathan McCook got one back for the Captain’s team.

Conor Taylor scored next for the President’s XV after another rampaging run from the No 8 before Edward Murray John got his second try when he stretched for the line and under-18’s player Stuart McQueen got another for the Presidents.

McQueen will be looking to break into the first team towards the end of the season when he turns 18.

Lewis Morrison showed his speed to get a try for the Captains team before club captain Callum MacDonald got another.

The game ended after Conor Taylor broke through but gave the ball to Daniel Thomas to score his second try and as always a tactical draw was declared.

Lochaber are back in league action on Saturday January 11 when they host Cowal. Kick off is at 2pm and the club hopes you can all make it along as they look to make a winning start to 2020.
