Isle of Ulva is on the hunt for a project manager

-

An ‘ambitious and experienced project manager’ is being sought to help develop an island with a population of just six, writes David McPhee.

June 2018 was a historical year for the isle of Ulva, following a successful community buyout after its private owner placed the island on the market.

Last year, hundreds of people filled out an application expressing an interest in moving to Ulva.

And now, the North West Mull Community Woodland Company (NWMCWC), which owns the island, is on the hunt for a project manager to help take the plans to the next level.

Writing on Facebook, the NWMCWC said: ‘In 2018 we took the Isle of Ulva into community ownership. The objectives of the acquisition are to manage the island to provide sustainable benefits with a focus on repopulation and ensuring community ownership delivers benefits for the wider North

West Mull area as well as the island itself.

‘Since coming into community ownership work has been progressing on several key projects, one of which is the refurbishment of Ulva House, as a heritage visitor centre with associated self-catering accommodation.

‘We are now seeking to appoint an ambitious and experienced project manager.

‘Working with the NWMCWC board and the Ulva development manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading, overseeing and driving forward this exciting project. ‘A proven track record in procuring and managing capital build projects is essential. Project and budgetary management skills are also important, as is experience of working within a community setting. In addition, experience within the heritage sector would be an advantage.’

The closing date for the application is Monday January 28 at 9am and interviews will be held on Mull in February.

Those interested should send a completed application form and C.V. to admin@nwmullwoodland. co.ukor post to NWMCWC fao Helen Murray, Penmore Mill, Dervaig, Isle of Mull, Argyll, PA75 6QS.

The post is funded through the Scottish Government’s European Regional Development Fund and the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
