Farmyard sculptures help make up for cancelled Dalmally Agricultural Show
Villagers in Dalmally have come up with an alternative to this year’s cancelled agricultural show.
Instead of being downhearted and missing out on the fun of the show that should have happened on September 5, the creative crowd took up the challenge to invent a different kind of entertainment for that weekend and put on a display of home-made sculptures on a farming theme.
While there were no marquees in the Mart Park and none of the usual classes for livestock or home industries, larger-than-life models of a chicken, a pig, a sheep and a Highland cow could be spotted in fields and gardens near the show field.
There was even a long distance scarecrow joining in the fun as far away as Lochgilphead.
Pupils at the village primary school also competed in one-off virtual competitions organised by the show team, completing challenges entitled My Dalmally Show Memory and Lockdown on a Plate, which they entered by sending in photos.
The Not-Dalmally-ShowDay events aimed to provide a little entertainment and to help raise the profile of the event ahead of next year’s centenary celebrations.
Mini celebration
‘We know many people were disappointed Dalmally Show had to be cancelled this year, because of Coronavirus restrictions but we hope our mini celebration has brought a smile to the faces of a few passers-by and will remind people we will be back next year for a special date, marking 100 years of Dalmally Show,’ said Marjorie Walker, one of the show organisers.
