WHERE IS THIS?

- ANDREW SPENCE editor@obantimes.co.uk

Once again, we had a weekend of reasonable weather which, as usual, resulted in lots of folk out walking.

The good weather even lasted into Monday, bringing a touch of spring with some warmer temperatures – unlike Tuesday when the monsoons returned.

I highlighted last week the number of businesses doing something different for Valentine’s Day and this week across social media we see lots of our cafés and restaurants doing special deals for Mother’s Day on Sunday March 14. It is great to see diversification and adaptations during the current crisis.

It goes without saying many of these cafés are suffering, so what better way to support them by giving your mum or your gran a treat with a takeaway afternoon tea? The biggest difficulty will be which one to choose as the standards and quality are outstanding.

Do your bit and order early so they can plan and avoid disappointment.

The same applies to our wonderful florists in the town who are listed on the Oban Town Directory. By ordering direct from a local florist, you ensure they gain the maximum benefit from your purchase as there is no charges paid to middlemen.

As I write this today, we are awaiting further announcements on the relaxation of restrictions to lockdown. I am sure it will be a slow process but if we are all patient and behave, we will see a return to normality sooner rather than later. As a town, we are desperate to see the non-essential retail, cafés, bars and restaurants open, even in restricted mode.

Last week’s photograph was the beautifully crafted new doors inside the Rockfield Centre.
