Glamping pod plans for Mull

-

Plans have been unveiled for five glamping pods on Mull.

A site northwest of the Sawmill Bungalow at Pennyghael is being proposed by Edinburgh-based developers Glampitect.

Named as Pennycross Mill Glamping, the initiative is being described as ‘a new and exciting accommodation option’ for the island.

The plans are available for the public to view online and a decision is expected from Argyll and Bute Council planning officers by the middle of May.

A design and access statement by Glampitect said the pods, rented out on a nightly basis, would create significant economic benefit to the surrounding area and local businesses.

‘The site would be operated as a typical (year-round) holiday let, much like a caravan site, but with fewer guests, meaning less noise and disruption to neighbouring properties and road users,’ said the statement, adding it would be marketed as ‘a peaceful and relaxing retreat.’

There is no intention to use the pods for long-term lease/ permanent residences.

The statement went on to say that based on the points discussed above, it was reasonable to suggest that glamping accommodation was warranted in this location, to cater for increasing visitor demand, ‘without sacrificing the area’s beauty or ecology’.

The operator also intends to build on existing relationships it has with other local businesses in the area to offer their goods and services to the guests, including shops, pubs and restaurants.

The plans can be viewed at Argyll and Bute Council’s online planning portal at argyll-bute.gov.uk using the code 21/00206/PP.
