Oban Comedy Festival plans for June 2021

-

An Oban-based events company is planning to put a smile on our faces by staging what organisers have hailed as ‘Europe’s first live comedy event’ after Covid.

112 Events, a social media and business-to-business marketing events company, is the driving force behind the upcoming Oban Comedy Festival. Held in partnership with The Oban Comedy Club, 112 Events said the socially-distanced experience takes place on June 25 and 26, with plans under way for other events in July. The June weekender will see 13 comedians appear over two nights at Cuan Mor and The View, with tickets available from Tickets Scotland and 112 Events’ Instagram page, which can be followed at 112events_uk. It will also be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.

Organisers said the first night at Cuan Mor features the award-winning JoJo Sutherland and friends, hosted by comic and broadcaster Bruce Angus Devlin. The line-up also includes Joe McTernan, Connor Burns and Gareth Mutch. The second night at The View will be hosted by in-demand MC Billy Kirkwood, with Robin Grainger, Rich Massara, Matt Stelingwerf, Mickey Bartlett and Dana Michelle Alexander.

Andy Laird, of 112 Events which launched in 2015 at the Edinburgh Fringe, said the plan is to return Oban to the comedy map of Scotland.

Uppermost is delivering a safe, ‘respectful, responsible and peaceful’ event and to give people the ‘full Edinburgh fringe experience on your doorstep’.

He said 112 Events aims to look after the artists and encourage them to return and to stage a memorable and professional show for guests. It has also worked closely with the venues and environmental health officers to ensure safety, he said. Thirteen independent local retailers are helping with sponsorship, including accommodation partners Esplanade Court Holiday Apartments, Apollo Blinds, Valeting by Nicole, TLC Waxes, E&C Flowers, Appin Holiday Homes, Events by Blossom & Bliss, the Oban Beer Seller and No. 9 Clothing.
