LHA apologises for new Spean homes delay

Lochaber Housing Association (LHA) says it understands the frustration of people offered new homes at its Tigh Aran development in Spean Bridge who are still waiting to move in almost eight months after they were expecting to, writes Mark Entwistle.

The 20 properties, designed for affordable social rent, were originally due to be ready for occupation in November and concern has been expressed that the new homes are still empty.

An LHA spokesperson told the Lochaber Times this week: ‘While we have been in touch monthly to update those offered the new houses at Tigh Aran in relation to the anticipated completion of the development, we totally understand the disappointment and frustration that they have not yet been given a date they can move in.’

The spokesperson added that, this week, the prospective tenants have been thanked for their patience and perseverance whilst the issues that are currently delaying completion of the development are finalised.

And LHA explained to tenants: ‘The contractor at the Tigh Aran site, RE Campbell, had largely completed the main construction elements of this project some time ago and has, since the beginning of this year, been working to put in place all statutory consents to allow occupation.

‘RE Campbell confirmed on Tuesday July 13 that all consents from Trunk Roads Scotland [via BEAR Scotland], SEPA, Scottish Water and Highland Council roads authority are now agreed and they expect to complete final works with all consents in place by the end of September.

‘We appreciate this process has taken much longer than expected, but we thank you again for your patience whilst these issues are finalised.

‘We will continue to be in touch with you and as soon as we possibly can confirm a date of entry.’
