VIEW FROM THE CHAMBER

A new tourism sector recruitment campaign #DoWhatYouLove has been launched to help tackle the immediate recruitment and talent crisis facing the tourism and hospitality sector as we progress out of the Covid pandemic.

Supported by Scottish Government, lead-partner Scottish Tourism Alliance has launched the campaign to address the current staffing crisis within Scotland’s tourism industry, a crisis caused by the impact of Covid-19 and the workforce shortage resulting from Brexit.

The aim of the campaign is:

To support your business in recruiting talent for the diverse range of positions which are currently available

To inspire young people to play an important role in the recovery of Scotland’s valuable tourism and hospitality industry by choosing a job within the sector

The initiative, funded by the Scottish Government and supported by a range of organisations and charities, highlights the exciting and varied opportunities which hospitality offers.

Frazer Coupland, Lochaber Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer, said: ‘I urge you to get involved in this campaign, share job opportunities with your followers, friends, families and across your networks to help our colleagues in the tourism and hospitality sector.

‘Support is needed now and this campaign will help to raise the profile of this fantastic sector, one that is crucially important to Lochaber and the wider Scotland economy and its immediate workforce requirements.

‘The on-going collaboration between chambers, employers and partners, including our own Developing the Young Workforce West Highland programme, is adding muchneed value and spotlight on the sector.’

As part of the campaign, we would ask all tourism businesses to list their vacancies for free on www.careerscope. uk.net.

The jobs will then be available to all Careerscope users and those with profiles will be matched to suitable advertisements.

The chamber is also encouraging businesses, as far as possible, to list the roles as flexible and not requiring experience to encourage applications from young people.

As well as making sure current vacancies are listed on the Careerscope portal, the chamber is calling on partners and tourism and hospitality businesses to get involved by sharing the campaign on their own social channels with the hashtag #DoWhatYouLove.
