THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

- Stewart Goudie, Parish Minister, North West Lochaber.

The world that we live in is full of rhythms: perhaps the most obvious of these is the rising and setting of the Sun each day.

The turn of the Earth around the Sun makes another rhythm, that of the seasons, autumn, winter, spring and summer. The circling of the Moon around the Earth causes another rhythm, of the tides rising and falling, nearly twice a day, which is difficult to understand or predict!

The society we live in has become increasingly chaotic, with less and less rhythm, and more and more uncertainty. Many of us have to work shift patterns to cover 24x7 opening or service.

Others of us get called in to work with no notice; or even worse, sent home from work with no notice. Many of us used to be certain that we had a job for life, so long as we didn’t mess up. Nowadays it’s hard to find work at all. The Covid virus has made things even more uncertain.

God sent his Son Jesus to give us a new pattern or rhythm for life. Jesus showed us how to begin and end each day in prayer, asking God what to be doing at the beginning of the day, and thanking Him for it all at the end of the day. Actually God wants us to be in contact with Him all day, looking for his guidance and strength in everything we are doing.

God loves you, and He wants what’s best for you. But it takes a listening spirit to hear his voice and to know what’s next. Whatever your rhythm, or however much chaos is in your life, God can help you through even the darkest valley.

Jesus brings light and life to everyone who journeys with Him. Come along and try it for yourself!
