The Oban Times

WHO IS THIS?

Can you believe it’s the end of January already?

We’re almost into the second month of the new year and things are starting to look promising.

I’ve just finished compiling a list of events and ships calling for the year and we’re off to a good start. It’s always great to put up a new year planner and see it start to fill up. There may not be quite as many ships as in previous years yet, but there are more than last year with a few new ships calling which is always exciting to see.

I’m so looking forward to being down at the North Pier, on hopefully sunny days, to welcome passengers to Oban. It’s still one of my favourite parts of the job.

This will be the tenth year Joe and I have welcomed people to Oban and we look forward to it just as much now as we did when we first started.

The last few years have been slightly more challenging but, with luck, this year we may see us return to something a bit more normal and from comments made last year we may be even busier than before as people discovered just how lovely it is here because they couldn’t travel abroad.

This coming month we have a few things to look forward to. For children, there’s a Harry Potter night at the library and a show at the Corran Halls called ‘You Choose’.

For those of us who are slightly more mature, we have pub quizzes in licensed establishments including The Lorne and Markie Dans, live music and our fabulous cinema currently showing great films, including The King’s Man.

The photograph last week was of the lovely Kevin Devine.
