Plan to turn Oban loo into sleeping pods
Plans have been unveiled to convert an Oban public toilet, which has been earmarked for closure, into two sleeping pods, writes Sandy Neil.
The proposal by Wilson Designs for the Pulpit Hill facilities also includes an accessible unisex public toilet, as well as two side extensions for toilet facilities for the self-contained sleeping pods.
Argyll and Bute Council has been working with SAA Property Ltd to improve the facilities at the public viewpoint site, and has approved SAA’s proposal for a long-term ground lease, which will be activated upon the approval of planning permission.
A decision from planning
The plan is to change the existing public convenience toilet facilities to two small sleeping pods and one central accessible public toilet.
officers is expected by the middle of March, and feedback can now be given by the public.
Wilson Designs said: ‘The council will not only receive rental income that could be used to help pay for opening, cleaning and maintenance of other toilets in the town, but these proposals will also sustainably utilise an existing building which no longer has a specific need.’
