Mull and Tiree receive funding for electric buses
Two projects delivering green transport on Mull and Tiree are sharing £225,000 from the Scottish Government’s Island Communities Fund.
The fund invests in ‘community-led projects that support employment, community resilience and contribute to Scotland’s just transition to net zero and climate resilient living on islands’.
The first tranche gave £75,600 to the Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust to buy ebikes for Gigha’s Active Travel Hub, £72,859 to the North West Mull Community Woodland Company to install double glazing at six homes in the Ulva Housing Refurbishment Project, and £86,000 to help Cornabus Tree Nursery on Islay manage the island’s forests.
The second tranche awards £77,550 to Mull and Iona Community Trust for an electric minibus serving Mull and Ulva, and £147,323 to Tiree Community Development Trust to install an electric charge point at the island’s filling station, and buy an electric community bus to ‘benefit the care home, youth projects and ranger-led nature tours’.
