The Oban Times

WHO IS THIS?

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

February is such a dreich month that I like to use it to plan ahead for all the things I have to look forward to when the weather improves and this year, for the first time in a while, there are lots of things happening.

To be honest I don’t even have to wait until the weather improves. Oban Phoenix Cinema has quite a few things coming up that I’d like to see – Sing 2, Belfast, and Death on the Nile to name a few this month.

There’s nothing like a nice, warm, comfy cinema to while away a few hours of total escapism. This is also the weather to indulge in tea and cake. We’re very fortunate to have so many places with gorgeous home-baking in Oban. I must admit nothing cheers me up like a cuppa and a fruit scone.

If you’re not a sloth like me during the winter months then maybe Atlantis Leisure is more your style, with a variety of activities to keep you moving or The Happy Wee Health Club, recently opened on Lochside Street. I understand all the reasoning behind exercise improving your mood and that’s great, I know it works and will try it one day, but I must admit I prefer a scone in this weather.

Focusing on things in the future though, if anyone is a member of a choir or group who love singing and would like to participate in the Oban International Sea Shanty Festival, please get in touch with me at the BID4Oban office by calling 01631 569915, or email kay@bid4oban.co.uk. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend of singing and fun.

Last week’s photograph was of Catriona MacFarlane, a wonderful lady who helps people through tough times.
