Road police clamp down on drug driving

Three men were arrested in Fort William in connection with drug driving offences over the weekend.

On Friday February 4, a 27year old man was arrested on the A82 in Fort William after providing a positive roadside test for cannabis.

A further two men were arrested on Saturday February 5. One man, aged 29, was arrested in Lochyside after providing a positive roadside test for cannabis and an 18-year-old man was arrested on the A82 on Belford Road for providing a positive roadside test for cocaine and cannabis.

All three men will be subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.

Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit based in Fort William said: ‘These proactive vehicle stops highlight our dedication to reducing injuries and fatalities on our roads.

‘Driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs remains a lead contributi­ng factor in collisions.

‘We are again reminding those who continue to drive while unfit, that you will be arrested if found to be committing these offences.

‘We wish to reassure our communitie­s that we are committed to making our roads as safe as possible.’
