Is this renovated empty cottage on Luing the Best Old Wreck in Scotland?
A renovated cottage on the Isle of Luing has been shortlisted as the ‘Best Old Wreck’ in Shelter’s 2022 Empty Homes Awards, beside four other nominations for Argyll and Bute Council.
The annual awards celebrate the impactful and transformative work undertaken across Scotland to bring back many of the country’s 43,000 long-term empty homes.
Argyll and Bute Council’s housing services team has been shortlisted in the following categories: Best Before and After (Ardbeg Road in Rothesay, and Cullipool on the Isle of Luing); Best Old Wreck (Cullipool and The Sheiling); and Outstanding Team.
Leader of Argyll and Bute Council, Robin Currie, said: ‘Tackling empty homes is a priority for Argyll and Bute Council. We have to make the most of the area’s existing housing stock. Not only does this help us address local housing demand, it also helps regenerate and support communities.
‘Our housing teams do an outstanding job bringing empty homes back into use across Argyll and Bute, so it’s wonderful to see not just one, but five of their nominations being recognised and making it through to the final of these prestigious awards.’
Shaheena Din, national project manager for Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, said: ‘The projects at Ardbeg Road, Cullipool and The Sheiling are fantastic examples of inspiring stories of homes and the people who have worked hard to bring them back into use.’
