Road safety on Skye under spotlight

-

Transport Scotland is to investigate measures to improve road safety on the A87 from Luib to Strollamus, on Skye.

The move is in response to ongoing talks with local MSP Kate Forbes. Interim director of roads Stewart Leggett said BEAR Scotland has been instructed to help ‘encourage improved driver behaviour’ through Dunan, Strollamus, Ard Dorch and Luib.

Local residents are concerned about the increase in both volume and speed of vehicles passing their front doors, with some calling for a reduction in the speed limit.

People often stop on this section to take photographs at the nearby Eas a ‘Bhradain waterfall and of Loch Ainort.

Ms Forbes said: ‘Those with houses looking onto the main road do not feel safe. I know some would like to see a speed limit reduction, but ultimately it is now over to Transport Scotland to gather evidence and assess what improvements need to be made.’
