Former Oban couple celebrate golden wedding anniversary

-

A former Oban couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday February 12.

Jim and Elma Stewart, who lived and worked in Oban when they met, were married in 1972. And on Saturday, family gathered at the Abbotsford Hotel, just outside Dumbarton, to celebrate their 50 years together.

Their only son David told The Oban Times: ‘My mum moved to Bonawe with her mum and dad when she was young. Her dad became the Bonawe quarry manager. My dad moved to Oban from Tayside and worked on the farm that more recently was Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park at Glencruitten.

‘They married in Ardchattan Church and had their reception in the Columba hotel.

‘They have three grandsons, Thomas, James and Adam, and two great grandsons, Mason and Jaxon. My dad has a sister who lives in Oban, Gladys Stewart, and my mum also has a sister, Sandra Wilson, and brother-inlaw, Tam Wilson, all of whom were at the anniversary meal.’

Jim and Elma now live in Clydebank.
