Mull pair court success in badminton competitions
Mull badminton siblings Malik and Nuria Clowes have been ruffling feathers at a high level again recently with the former contesting the Highland Junior Championships in Fortrose and the latter playing at the National Under 19s Championship in Lanarkshire.
In his singles event Malik, aged 14, reached the Pool B final before narrowly losing out to Alistair Gordon.
Paired with Glasgow School of Sport player Ryan Macdonald in the doubles, Malik had another tough game on his hands when meeting the number one seeds in the first round. After losing 24-22/2220, the pair went on to win the Pool B final against Finlay Murdoch and William Sendall 21-19/21-16.
Older sibling Nuria, 16, was in action last weekend when she lost to number one seed and eventual winner Sophie Ford in the quarter final 21-12/21-17.
In the mixed doubles, Nuria and her partner Evan Kenny lost to a seeded pair in the first round and went on to lose in the final of the Pool B competition to Finlay Jack and Sophie Barrie 21-10/21-12.
Nuria and Malik train in
Dervaig Community Hall under the watchful eye of dad David, a professional tennis coach. This weekend the pair are in action again. Malik is playing in Newcastle in a Badminton England Silver event.
