Busy day on Ben Nevis for LMRT

-

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT) members attended three call-outs on Tuesday February 15 after climbers got into difficulty on Ben Nevis.

The team got off to an early start when it was called to help two climbers who had been stranded overnight on Tower Ridge.

Varying weather allowed the R199 helicopter to lift team members up to the CIC hut, whilst others headed up the ridge. After a search lasting several hours in testing weather conditions, the pair were located off route and lowered to safety.

Whilst the first shout was under way, the volunteer Fort William-based team received a second. A climber had fallen on Comb Gully and suffered a lower leg fracture.

The casualty was moved further down the hill to a point where an R151 team took over.

The Lochaber team was just heading back to base for a well-earned dinner when they received a third call to a couple stuck towards the top of Tower Gully. Thankfully, and with a bit of guidance, the pair reversed their tracks to easier ground.

A LMRT spokesperson said: ‘Thanks go out to everyone on the hill, including Prestwick and Inverness helicopter crews, all the people who offered to help carry kit – sorry we didn’t get your names – and those who

provided tea and snacks at the CIC hut for us.’

LMRT depends on the public’s continuing donations and fundraising support. Visit https://www.justgiving.com/lmrt to donate.
