A look back to when the Clanranald II mailboat plied Loch Shiel

-

This week’s glimpse back in time, courtesy of High Life Highland’s Am Baile website, captures the Clanranald II mailboat at Glenfinnan, in the early 1930s.

Between around 1900 and 1953 she made a return trip every week-day between Acharacle and Glenfinnan with half-a-dozen calls including Gaskan, Polloch and Daililea on the route.

The journey took two hours and for all but four of those years she was skippered by Captain Angus MacDonald.

The service continued with different vessels until 1967 when the A861 Kinlochmoidart to Lochailort road was completed.
