Weighty personal bests

-

Strong men and women gathered in the Iron Therapy Gym on the Ben Nevis Estate last weekend to take part in a ‘Personal Best’ day, organised by owner and champion heavy lifter Stuart Whyte.

Encouraged by fellow enthusiasts each participant took turns to gradually build up their lifts to reach and hopefully exceed their previous best results.

The day was a great success, with gym member Becca Todd hitting a personal best (PB) in deadlift with 120kg. Susie Archibald and Jilly Hamilton deadlifted 105kg, while Graham Little pressed a 90kg log press and deadlifted 260kg - all achieving PBs.

Stuart Whyte and Eben van Wyke pressed 120kg in the logpress, with Eben and Ryan Campbell both deadlifting 310kg.

Stuart said: ‘There was a really positive atmosphere and a tremendous day with everyone joining in to help each other do their best.

‘Friends and family of the participants also helped encourage.

‘The whole idea of the gym is to help people make the most of their sport and enjoy a sense of achievement and wellbeing. We all had a great time, with a good few records broken in a very friendly and non-competitive way.’
