Volunteer Iain set for close shave in memory of coastguard pal, Ali

-

An Oban volunteer coastguard has set himself a challenge to raise money in memory of a colleague.

Oban Coastguard Rescue Team volunteers have raised money over several years for cancer charities by walking from Oban to Edinbane, Isle of Skye, the family home of volunteer coastguard Ali MacNab.

Ali was a trusted, respected and dedicated member of the Oban team, who sadly died from cancer in January 2016, aged 48.

Lockdown has meant the team have not been able to ‘Walk for Ali’ for two years.

However, this year, as a stopgap, coastguard Iain Mackinnon has been growing a beard and the plan is for people to donate to the ‘shaving the beard for Ali’ event.

On his JustGiving page, Iain says he has had facial hair of various sizes, shapes and form for more than 35 years - in fact, many people will have never seen him clean shaven.

The date for the big shave is Monday March 21, at Trinity Hairdressing and Beauty on Oban High Street. To donate to Iain’s fundraiser, visit https:// bit.ly/35ckHEt.
