Ark art saved until 2027
A ‘Biblical scale’ sculpture of Noah’s Ark built without planning consent near the Kyles of Bute to provoke thought about the climate crisis will be allowed to stand until at least 2027.
No sooner had the neo-Noah, local environmentalist David Blair, hammered the last nail into his 20 metre-long ark than Argyll and Bute Council hit him with an enforcement notice requiring him to submit a planning application by September
22 – the end of a 28-day period it is allowed to stand without planning permission.
However, planning officers had a change of heart and recommended councillors approve the artwork at a planning meeting on Wednesday February 23, which they did, on condition the permission ends on or before March 1, 2027 unless further planning permission is granted, and if/when the ark sculpture is removed from the site, the land is reinstated to the satisfaction of the council.
