Happy 100th anniversary to Easdale Royal British Legion

-

Easdale’s Royal British Legion branch is celebrating the next chapter of its 100-year history with a host of special events, starting this month, writes Kathie Griffiths.

A book exchange and sale this Saturday, March 12, at Seil Island Hall kicks off the celebration calendar.

From 11am to 2pm, people are invited to bring themselves and a book they have enjoyed, and think others would too, and swap it for another - making a donation to Armed Forces charities.

Or you can just bring yourself and enjoy a blether and a cuppa with a bite to eat.

An invitation is also being extended to members of other RBL branches to come and say hello and celebrate Easdale members’ first event of their 100th year.

The official date of when the Post of the Comrades of the Great War formed itself into a branch of the Legion on Easdale is March 28, 1922.

The next event will be a centenary lunch for the branch’s members at the Tigh an Truish

Hotel on Seil on Saturday March 26 at 12.30pm. Details are available from branch secretary Lorraine Reynolds on 0185 30046.

Plans are going ahead for a VE day afternoon tea dance on Sunday May 8 at Seil Island Hall from 2-6pm.

Organisers are encouraging people to come along in their best party dress, uniform or de-mob suit to dance the afternoon away to the finest sounds of the 40s, enjoy the most sumptuous tea that rationing would allow and hear from Seil Sound Victory Singers.

Tickets will be available soon.

Details of other events will be announced throughout the year so as many people as possible can join in.

Branch chairman Ron Hetherington said: ‘Also in the planning stages, the branch, in conjunction with other community groups, plans to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June and to hold a repeat of last year’s Family Fun Day in conjunction with the playgroup organisers at Seil Island Hall in August.’
