Oban communities’ generosity is amazing

People all around the Oban area pulled out all the stops at the weekend to help the Ukrainian people fleeing the war.

The on-going bombardment by the Russian forces and the slaughter of innocent civilians has continued to shock us, in part because we see ourselves in the Ukrainian people – the families, children, the elderly, they are no different from us.

At the weekend communities showed their care and thoughtfulness, overwhelming organisers of a local appeal who had called for donations.

Despite many people struggling with their own financial difficulties due to the cost of living rising as well as energy and fuel costs, so many have given generously and selflessly. It is so heartening – and hopeful.
