Oban rider’s strong finish in season opener in Qatar

-

John McPhee enjoyed a solid start to the 2022 Moto 3 season by taking fifth place in the Qatar GP.

As a result of penalties on various drivers, John started from fifth on the grid and finished in the same position, recording the second fastest time in the race in the process.

Now riding for Max Racing on a Husqvarna bike, the Oban racer spent the race in the leading group and only lost touch with the top four in the last laps - a positive start considering it is his first race after the change of brand.

Speaking after the race John said: ‘I did not know how my setup was going to be across the race distance as it is my first race with Husqvarna bike.

‘We managed to compose ourselves well in the race. It would have been perfect if I could have attacked just a little bit more. Overall I feel strong. We got points for the championship. It is important to have these points to start the season in a good way.’ Attention now turns to Indonesia where John will compete on the Mandalika International Street Circuit on Sunday March 20.
