Light in the darkness

-

While here in Lochaber we can be thankful for so many things, this week our thoughts have turned to others less fortunate.

We were saddened to hear of so many people getting into difficulty on Ben Nevis in the last week or so, and our thoughts are particularly with the families and friends of the men who lost their lives on the mountain.

Yet we are grateful more lives were not lost thanks to the bravery and selflessness of Lochaber Mountain Rescue team members and personnel of other emergency services and support groups, who go to the aid of those in trouble, often in horrendous conditions and at risk to themselves.

And while we all continue to watch in horror as Ukrainian lives are lost and homes, hospitals, businesses and much of the country’s vital infrastructure are destroyed by the relentless bombardment by Russian bombs and missiles, however bleak this news, there is light thanks to the many people in Lochaber who have been donating money and items to help the refugees fleeing the war and those who are now looking to help house Ukrainians who make it to Scotland.

We can only say, thank you.
