Trading graces
You, dear regular readers, will be familiar with the exceptional regard I have for our corner of the world and the communities within it.
This abiding affection for our area and its people was reinforced last week in no uncertain terms as the result of a bit of a plumbing crisis.
I was away from Oban but my downstairs neighbour called me to say there was a leak through his ceiling from my bathroom. I phoned my chum Sid, a plumber, and reported the issue and he responded with alacrity to repair the fault.
However, Sid also informed me that there was another problem which he was unable to correct at the time, so I called Paddy, who also responded rapidly to carry out repairs.
I cannot express adequately my gratitude for their help, which I have found to be typical of the trades professionals in Oban. The willingness to pull out all the stops to resolve crises, even outwith usual business hours, is heart-warming. Sid and Paddy (and Nicky and Ken recently too) are community stars.
And Paddy, I hope you enjoyed your day at the races on Saturday to celebrate your landmark birthday.
