‘Appalling’ wait for Oban ‘vital’ new traffic law
Oban Community Council reported an ‘appalling’ three month wait for a response from Argyll and Bute Council about new traffic regulations in the town – and it is still waiting, writes Sandy Neil.
Marri Malloy, chairperson of Oban Community Council, told Wednesday’s meeting of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee: ‘At the last meeting, an undertaking was given to Oban Community Council that the process leading to the TRO for Oban, would be restarted and we would receive a reply to the email we sent a few weeks previously. We have not been contacted in the subsequent three months. Can the area committee please insist that officers respond to emails and deliver on the undertakings they have given.’
Councillor Elaine Robertson said: ‘I apologise on behalf of the council: you should have had a response. Please be assured this has not been ignored, or overlooked.
‘It is appalling that we have not got back to the community council, on any subject, never mind this particular one.’
Councillor Roddy McCuish said: ‘You shouldn’t have to apologise for the council. The TRO is vital to Oban, vital to the chaos we’re going to [have] in the summer, and nothing will be in place now for this summer, far less, maybe, going into the winter, if the TRO process hasn’t even started.’
