The Oban Times

Welcome to the Highlands and Islands Music & Dance Festival

-

Glad to be back – this year the Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival celebrates its 38th anniversary from April 29 to May 1 2022, and Oban will again see an influx of young performers all ready to compete. Come and join the town to celebrate the talent of our budding Highland dancers and pipers at a variety of venues throughout Oban.

Each year there are performers from near and far, making the trip and entering many class competitions. The festival provides quite a spectacle of dancers at Atlantis Leisure Centre and the Corran Halls, as well as showcasing this year’s Junior Piping Competition at the Rockfield Centre. The Highlands and Islands festival promotes a long tradition of music and dance, and the opportunity for many young people to show off their talents. Argyll is rich in music and dance heritage and the festival provides a great outlet.

Entries for the competitions closes on March 31. Breege Smyth, chair of HIMDF would like to express gratitude for the Strategic Festival Fund awarded by Argyll and Bute Council.
