Enter now for Oban‘s Mòd

-

Organisers of this year’s Oban Mòd are looking forward to bumper entries.

Hopes are that this year’s event will be ‘normal’ says Comunn Gaidhealach an Obain secretary Ann Ferguson.

Dates are set for Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4 and entries are now open with a closing date of Friday April 22.

‘Having held a virtual Mòd last year, the Committee of Comunn Gaidhealach an Obain which runs the Mòd, are pleased to announce they hope to hold a ‘normal’ Mòd this year,’ said Ann.

Oban and District Local Mòd will run in accordance with any Scottish Government advice but organisers and entrants are keen to experience the excitement of live competitions again.

As usual, children’s competitions will take place in the Corran Halls and be on Friday June 3 with the senior competitions held in Oban High School on Saturday June 4.

Oban Local Mòd gives participants from primary age to adult the chance to take part in conversation, poetry, storytelling, singing and instrumental recitals.

‘Due to Covid difficulties, this year’s programme of competitions is a little restricted since school choirs have been unable to meet to practise. Apart from that, competitions are as they were,’ said Ann.

Previously the Mòd has attracted competitors from not only Oban and surrounding areas but from Mid Argyll, Tarbert, Mull, Lismore, Sandbank and Lochaber.

‘We’re hoping new and previous competitors will return. The committee is delighted to welcome competitors and audiences back to what we hope to be a successful and enjoyable Mòd,’ added Ann.

You can find more information and download the syllabus from the Comunn Gaidhealach an Obain website.

Any entries should be sent to Oban Provincial Mod, Furan, The Corran Halls, Oban, PA34 5AB.
