Local trials riders to the four in Scottish Championship
A quartet of off-road motorcyclists from Oban and the surrounding area ended their 2021 Scottish Trials Championship with a podium place.
Oban High School S2 pupil Euan Sim from Taynuilt took pole position in the Youth B category while Oban trio George Gage, second over 40s; Scott Robertson, third over 40s, and Neil Mckechnie, second adult C class, also claimed awards.
The Scottish Auto Cycle Union (SACU) event is run at six different venues throughout the year and the awards ceremony was held at Livingston earlier this month with two times Isle of Man TT winner Brian Morrison, who rides trials, presenting the awards to the winners.
All four local riders are members of Lochaber Trials Club and joiner George, who runs Coastal Campers, also runs the Appin trial for Lochaber.
At 67, Neil Mckechnie is the oldest member and has been riding most of his life, while George rode as a schoolboy before returning to trials 10 years ago. Scott used to race quad bikes as a schoolboy so riding motorcycles is a large part of all of their lives.
All four riders practice locally and Euan is a regular at the Bob Macgregor trials academy in Ayr where he practises with some of the best riders in Scotland. The youngster competes at events across the UK.
George and Neil have both ridden the Scottish Six Days Trial at Fort William which starts again in May while Euan is looking forward to doing it once he is old enough.
The 2022 season kicks off at Craiglash Quarry, Aberdeen, in April finishing at Fersit, Roy Bridge, in October.
