Patient told police he hoped they got raped

-

A hospital patient who told police he hoped they got raped has been fined £400 at Oban Sheriff Court.

Luke Young, aged 26, of 9D Miller Road, Oban, plead guilty to behaving aggressively towards on-duty police officers, repeatedly shouting, swearing and uttering derogatory and sexual remarks at them.

The court, on Wednesday March 23, heard police had found Young in Lochside Street in Oban injured and apparently under the influence of alcohol or some other substance on January 1 this year.

While in the accident and emergency department at Lorn and Islands Hospital in the town, Young became aggressive in a treatment room making references to the officers being raped and calling them ‘retards’ and ‘pigs’.

Hospital staff had detained Young under the Mental Health Act.

The court was told this behaviour was ‘out of character’ for Young who had very little, if any, recollection of that night due to alcohol.

He was disgusted by the comments he had made and wanted to apologise to the officers who had only been trying to do their job and care for him, the court heard.

Young was also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
