Tiree man jailed for assault and rape 50 years ago
A 64-year-old Tiree man found guilty of rape dating back half a century ago has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Iain MacKinnon, born October 28 1957, of 2 Barrapoll, Isle of Tiree, was convicted of two charges of assault and rape on January 26 2022 after a trial at Glasgow High Court.
The charges date back to between September 1972 and March 1975. MacKinnon was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Edinburgh High Court on Monday March 28 by temporary Judge Gilchrist. He was made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 for an indefinite period.
