Islanders face lengthy wait for physiotherapy

-

Islanders on Seil and Easdale are being urged to write to Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership about nine-month waits for physiotherapy.

The area has not met the criteria to be assigned its own physiotherapist and that is resulting in lengthy waits, community councillors heard at their March meeting. ‘That will have a big impact on us, especially with our elderly population. The more pressure we can bring, the better it will be for the community in the long run,’ said community council convener Zim Knight.

▎ Plans for the Queen’s platinum jubilee were also on the agenda. Sites are being sought across Seil to plant in celebration. Ideas are also being considered to come up with a community event to mark the royal occasion - possibly tying in with Easdale Royal British Legion.

▎ The island looks set to get another green glass recycling bin at the community hall car park to cope with demand. People were reminded not to leave bottles on the ground next to the current bin if it is full. Tell a member of the community council instead.

▎ Letters are being sent out to Easdale Surgery patients informing them of the spring booster vaccination roll-out for those aged over 75 and those at particular risk from Covid.

▎ A club buy-out of Seil Golf Course is ongoing and has the ‘wholehearted support’ of the community council.

▎ Scottish Water has reported ‘good data’ so far from tests on its waste water system as part of a Balvicar upgrade which includes using a ultra-violet type treatment and putting in a new septic sank for houses at Seaview.

▎ Anyone considering becoming hosts for Ukrainian families fleeing the Russian invasion were advised to make contact with Argyll and Bute Council’s resettlement officer Morag Brown.

The community council’s next meeting is its annual general meeting on Tuesday May 24 at 6.30pm both on Zoom and in person at Seil Island hall.
