Treat others the way you would want to be treated
Oban’s generosity has been overwhelming since the Ukrainian crisis erupted.
Medical supplies, food, clothing and other essentials have flooded into collection points and continue to do so. Van loads of donations from our town and outlying areas and our islands have already reached those who are so desperately in need of it.
We have hosts ready to open their homes and give shelter in the safety of Argyll - in some cases entire communities like Lismore and Appin. Frustrations are growing though with the UK government for ‘dragging its heels’ over processing the mountain of visa applications that will undoubtedly be piling up on civil servants’ desks. It is heart-rending to hear from volunteers that despite having families and individuals prepared to share their homes that the safe beds they have waiting will have to stay empty until government officials quicken the process. Sweden flung its doors wide open, why then won’t our government? A question justifiably asked by Lismore’s Iris Piers.
So if any top government bods happen to be reading this column, treat others the way you would want to be treated.
