Warm reception in Glencoe for UK’s first snow sport festival

-

Organisers have hailed the UK’s first mountain-based ski and snowboard festival a success after snow sport enthusiasts from all over the country flocked to Glencoe Mountain Resort at the weekend.

Participants at The Mighty Coe celebrated their love of sliding and the mountains as well as trying new kit and getting a look at next year’s equipment months before it hits the shops.

Others took their first steps into the world of ski/splitboard touring, got tips on piste technique, learned how avalanche safety kit works or just enjoyed the mountains, the snow, the atmosphere and a beer with their mates.

Neil Dalgleish from organisers Hillside Outside said: ‘Launching a new festival in the mountains of Glencoe was always going to be a big risk and a huge challenge, but the first Mighty Coe festival was a huge success.

‘Sunshine, snow and smiles were the theme all weekend and I hope this is the start of something special for Scottish snow sport.

‘The Alps have long had spring snow festivals but I was proud of what the Scottish version turned out like – what a friendly and positive community of skiers and snowboarders we have. They love their sport and know how to have a good time too.’

The Mighty Coe was created and produced by Hillside Outside Limited, working in partnership with Glencoe Mountain Resort.
