Strong Strathaven side keep Oban Lorne at bay

-

The Green Machine travelled to Strathaven with a 23-man squad in the knowledge they were in for a tough tie in the last away game of the season.

The game began at a fast pace with both sides enjoying periods of possession in an end-to-end start.

With great passages of play between forwards and backs the game continued to flow. Oban kept pushing for the try line but stoic defence from Strathaven kept the visitors at bay. Oban looked to be gaining the upper hand but two mistakes proved costly with Strathaven capitalising with two converted tries to take the lead.

The game continued to be played at a fast pace with Wright and Anderson making line-breaking runs which, with more support, would have resulted in tries.

A run of successful penalty kicks kept Oban in touch and the continuous pressure further paid off with Conner Ferris bursting over for a trademark powerhouse try.

Strathaven are a good side and came back to score two more tries but again Ferris kept his team in sight by bursting over for a second try.

The game was closer than the scoreline suggests and the boys put in a great performance with superb effort against strong opposition.

Oban face Uddingston at Glencruitten on Saturday April 16 for what will be the final game of the season.
