Invitation to hear more about Oban Pride 2022
Oban Pride will host a community meeting next week to reveal plans for this year’s event.
As well as finding out about the September 10 line-up so far, the meeting on Thursday April 21 from 5.15pm at the Argyll Wellbeing Hub in Breadalbane Street is an opportunity for businesses, organisations, groups and any others interested from the community to go and hear more about why Pride is important and how to get involved and give support.
‘We are delighted that Oban Pride is back in 2022 and our plans are going amazingly,’ said Oban Pride chairperson Phill Dexter.
‘We have a fabulous day planned, with our rainbow stage, youth zone, family zone and community stall village all being in and around the Corran Halls; it is going to be great to have everyone together once again.’
Plans for a Pride march are still waiting for approval.
‘Pride is an amazing celebration of being able to be LGBTQ+ and being able to express yourself in your local community, but it’s also a chance for us to protest and fight for equality for LGBTQ+ people not only in the UK, but throughout the world.
‘In 2022 the Scottish Government and the UK
Government are being ask to seriously look at some of the practices that still happen, in particular conversion therapy, which is still legal in the UK and governments are dragging their heels on putting an outright ban on this practice.
‘This is just one of the many reasons that Pride is still so important in the Scotland and the UK.
‘Oban Pride would like to give the whole community of Oban the opportunity to get involved. Pride is for everyone who believes that all people should be treated equally regardless of sexuality, race, gender identity or anything else that makes them who they are,’ said Phill.
