Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup first round

keeper Scott MacLachlan appeared to know little about until it crashed back off his faceguard.

Inveraray took the lead on 37 minutes after Lewis Montgomery’s ball to the left came to Fraser Watt who shot goalwards. Home keeper Adam Todd saved, but the onrushing Campbell Watt poked the ball into the net from close range.

Inveraray began to press the Strathglass defence after the re-start and got their reward on 51 minutes when a looping ball from Ruaraidh Graham landed in the ‘D’ where keeper Adam Todd tried to clear.

However, with John Kennedy challenging, Todd was penalised for a double swing and referee John Angus Gillies had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Fraser Watt did his usual efficient job, drilling the penalty to the keeper’s left side.

Strathglass responded and enjoyed a period of pressure, twice going close within minutes as Michael Stokes found space but he fired over the bar on both occasions.

Strathglass did get a goal back on 71 minutes when a clearance came to Penri Jones on the right and his shot went through a ruck of players and into the net but Inveraray stayed in front to take the points. Seth Jones stood out for a youthful Strathglass side, whilst Inveraray buckshee back Ross MacMillan turned in a man-of-the-match performance on his debut.
