Around Oban

Oban is buzzing with visitors here for the Easter holidays and I was delighted to see today that someone has added to the holiday vibe by crocheting a topper for the post box outside Café Shore in Argyll Square.

It’s absolutely gorgeous and lots of people have been stopping to take photographs of it. It’s obviously cheering people up as much as it delighted me when I saw it, so a huge thank you to whoever’s responsible.

This weekend we have all the usual music around the pubs and our wonderful cinema is full of good things to watch, as well as a Craft Fair in The Rockfield Centre on Saturday April 16, between 11am and 3pm.

On Easter Sunday, April 17, The View have an Easter party for the little ones, in fact they have two, one between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and the next one between 2pm and 3pm.

There are also lots of places doing a Sunday lunch, which I love on Easter Sunday, after I’ve rolled my egg and scoffed it, and the chocolate one, for breakfast.

Next week, on Tuesday April 19, we have the first cruise ship of the season to look forward to when MV Spitzbergen visits Oban.

An explorer ship with up to 180 passengers on board, MV Spitzbergen also has an expedition team who deliver lectures and encourage passengers to live an outdoor life making the most of local wildlife, nature and culture.

Many of the passengers will be taking advantage of walking tours to make the most of their time in Oban and I know they’ll receive a typical warm welcome.

Last week’s photograph was of John Stewart from the George Street Fish & Chip shop, one of our wellknown local businessmen.
