Oban Lorne close out season in style

-

Oban Lorne men finished off their 21/22 season on Saturday with a bumper 101-17 win over bottom-placed side Uddingston in the West 2 league.

The game started evenly with Oban’s Callum Maclachlan scoring his first of seven tries which was successfully converted by Callum Hamilton.

Uddingston quickly hit back with a well-worked try of their own. Another try for each team followed before Oban’s Jamie Bate received a yellow card for a high tackle.

With the score at 14-12 and the hosts down to 14 men, Oban had to dig deep to stay ahead but they backed themselves and really opened the taps on the scoring.

Another two tries for prop Maclachlan and one each for captain Vasco Borisov, Craig Wright, Ellis Hunter and Ben Findlay saw Oban close out the first half 61 points to 12 ahead.

The second half began the same as the first half ended with more tries from Craig Wright, Jacob Heal and Ellis Hunter, before Callum Maclachlan scored another two. Uddingston scraped a try back, giving them a slim chance of securing a bonus point which would prevent their relegation. However, the game ended with one last try for man of the match Callum Maclachlan who finished the season as Oban’s top try scorer.

The stylish display of the Oban Lorne RFC players didn’t stop on the pitch on Saturday. To mark their final game, players were all tasked with going to a charity shop to buy an outfit for £10 to wear post match. A win-win all round.

Oban Lorne men’s team have a short break before starting preparations for the 7s season. Training is every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm, Oban Lorne Rugby Club.
